Financial institutions (such as credit unions, banks, and trust and loan companies) and participants in the asset management industry (including investment funds, fund managers, dealers, portfolio managers, and custodians) are subject to compliance obligations under Part XVIII (Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act or FATCA) and Part XIX (Common Reporting Standard or CRS) of the Income Tax Act (Canada).
The Canada Revenue Agency is actively auditing financial institutions to assess their compliance with their FATCA and CRS obligations (and potentially assessing penalties for any non-compliance).
Compliance professionals at all types of financial institutions are invited to join BLG and its lawyers for a lunch & learn session on Tuesday August 1, 2023.
