A group of young lawyers from Erasmus University Rotterdam visited GANADO Advocates' offices in Valletta on the 18th of October as part of a study tour to Malta and Piraeus, to gain experience of the maritime sector through a practical legal lens. The GANADO Advocates´ Shipping team provided an enthusiastic and appreciative audience with a tailored familiarisation visit and networking sessions as well as valuable insights to the department´s day-to-day work.

In the practical workshop on seafarers by Dr Jotham Scerri-Diacono, Partner in the Shipping Department, the young lawyers were given an idea of the kinds of problems that have to be tackled through a case study on the arrest of a vessel and its effect on the crew. Dr Matthew Attard, Senior Associate within the same practice area, delivered a presentation on the

Maritime Labour Convention and its application in the shipping world with a focus on the practical realities faced by seafarers and how the Convention is implemented and enforced by States.
