Mr Gordon "Butch" Stewart has added another hotel to his all inclusive Sandals Hotel chain. Sandals International, a major Jamaican based hotel chain, purchased the Royal Bay from Zurich Insurance of Canada in the spring and has spent several million dollars in renovations to expand the numbers of rooms to 242 and bring the resort into line with its other Caribbean resort destinations. Mr Stewart has referred to the facility as his first 5 star resort and to the Islands of the Turks & Caicos as the "last of the great exotics". Sandals International presently operates the hotel under the name Royal Bay Resort and Villas, but it is expected to convert to the Sandals name this year.
