On July 3, the Commissioner of the Personal Information
Protection Commission of Japan and the European Commissioner for
Justice and Consumers met in Brussels to discuss how to achieve
"smooth and mutual data transfer." The joint statement states that the parties are
targeting a "simultaneous finding of an adequate level of
protection by both sides" by early 2018.
