The Daily Journal reports on a proposed class action that Sheppard Mullin filed on behalf of pro bono client, A Better Childhood, against the state of California and San Bernardino County Children and Family Services accusing the county of failing to provide adequate protection to the 5,800 children under its supervision, resulting in a dangerous environment for these children.

Partner Polly Towill, who is leading the firm's pro bono involvement in the matter, commented, "Our expectation is that the court will force defendants to implement what is needed to cure the failures and protect this class of children."

"I was looking for an opportunity to help children, and we took on the case pro bono with A Better Childhood when we learned the extent to which the foster system was failing some of our most vulnerable children in California."
