The Canadian Law Awards returned for its fourth year to recognize the nation's leading law firms, in-house legal teams, individuals, deals and cases over the past year.
Gowling WLG took home the award for "Insolvency & Restructuring Deal of the Year" for its work on the Aldo cross-border restructuring deal.
The Aldo Group, a Montreal, Quebec-based Canadian retailer that owns and operates a worldwide chain of shoe and accessories stores under the names Aldo, Globo and Call it Spring, obtained protection under the CCAA on May 15, 2020, and successfully restructured its business, the Monitor having been discharged on April 25, 2023. In this complex, cross-border restructuring matter, a team of Gowling WLG lawyers (notably Francois Viau, Alexandre Forest and Ilias Hmimas) advised seven major property owners representing a significant portion of Aldo Group's Canadian landlords.
Montreal-based partners Alexandre Forest and Geneviève Cloutier attended the event to accept the award on behalf of the firm.
Gowling WLG extends warm congratulations to all of this year's winners and finalists.
