The extremely high number of applications in 1993 is mainly because:
- there was no trademark law before 1992
- the applications for re-registration of former Soviet Union trademarks were accepted until December 31, 1993.
The Soviet Union was also the member state of Madrid's agreement, so the international registrations were re-registered as well.
The number of applications is now stabilized at the level of 2600-2800 applications per year.

Some 3500 domestic applications have been filed since 1992. This number is relatively small compared to more than 12 thousand entries to the Estonian Business Register. A remarkable increase in the number of domestic applications is expected soon.
