accounting department of a garage door company she co-owns was
sentenced to 28 months for failing to pay $4.67 million in
employment taxes (United States v. Pettyjohn, D. Colo., No.
1:13-cr-00020, sentencing 9/11/13).
Beth Ann Pettyjohn, of Englewood, was sentenced Sept. 11 by
Judge William J. Martinez of the U.S. District Court for the
District of Colorado and was ordered to pay $4.67 million in
restitution to the Internal Revenue Service and a $25,000
fine. Pettyjohn entered a guilty plea March 11.
Pettyjohn is the co-owner and vice president of Overhead Door
Company of Denver (OHD), according to the plea agreement. From
September 2003 to June 2009, she stopped paying over the payroll
taxes her company withheld from employee wages, as well as the
matching portion of taxes under the Federal Insurance Contributions
Act (FICA).
