Gas2Liquids appeals exemption given to oil companies
Gas2Liquids, a wholesaler that imports petroleum products, has
filed an appeal against the exemption granted by the Competition
Commission to the South African Petroleum Industry Association
(SAPIA) and its members last year.
In its application to the Competition Tribunal, Gas2Liquids
alleges that the Commission should not have granted the exemption
as only a limited number of industry participants could benefit
from the exemption. It claims that the information sanctioned by
the exemption enables large oil companies to maintain their
allocated markets and market share without the need to improve
infrastructure.
The Commission's response to the application is that the
exemption does not give SAPIA's members carte blanche to
cooperate with one another.
