Colette Reiner Mayer, partner in Morrison & Foerster's Patent Litigation Group, is one of the many lawyers leading the way for MoFo.

Colette's practice focuses on intellectual property litigation and arbitration, primarily high technology patent and trade secret litigation. She has litigated a wide range of technology related cases, from data storage and videoconferencing systems to data compression, mobile application distribution systems, and semiconductor design and manufacture. Colette also plays the role of advisor when it comes to companies seeking her expertise in FinTech products and services, such as blockchain, in addition to guiding clients through pre-litigation risk assessments.

Five things you should know about Colette are:

  1. She is vice chair of the firm's Pro Bono Committee, and she was part of the team that secured a preliminary injunction requiring the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol to improve conditions in its Arizona Detention Facilities.
  2. She authored the Patent Case Management Judicial Guide, a comprehensive overview of best practices and procedures in patent cases, which is provided to all federal district judges and was published by the Federal Judicial Center and LexisNexis.
  3. Before starting her career in law, Colette lived in Osaka, Japan, where she worked at Osaka Gakuin University. She also speaks conversational Japanese.
  4. In addition to her law degree, she earned a bachelor of science in mathematics from MIT.
  5. In 2019, BTI Consulting Group named Colette to its list of Client Service All-Stars for her work in Intellectual Property Litigation.
