Global law firm Clyde & Co is pleased to announce that Sapna Jhangiani, a barrister and Partner in the firm's Singapore office, has been appointed Queen's Counsel by Her Majesty The Queen on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, Robert Buckland QC, MP following consideration by the independent Queen's Counsel Selection Panel.

Peter Hirst, Senior Partner, Clyde & Co says: "We are hugely proud that Sapna has been appointed a QC. Since joining us as an associate in 2006 she has developed and grown to become an outstanding lawyer, a leader in her field and a valued partner at the firm. As the first female QC at the firm she is also a role model to other female lawyers here and elsewhere.

"Above all else she is a top class lawyer who demonstrates the very best qualities of our profession in her focus on the needs and interests of her clients and in her ability to work with others with professionalism, skill and charm. She is very deserving of this honour."

The award of Queen's Counsel (also known as silk) is for excellence in advocacy and is made to advocates who have rights of audience in the higher courts of England and Wales and who have demonstrated the competencies in the requisite framework to a standard of excellence. Sapna will formally become silk when she makes her declaration before the Lord Chancellor at a ceremony on 16 March 2020 at Westminster Hall.

Sapna joined the firm in 2006 in its Dubai office from the Independent Bar in London and was promoted to Partner in 2016. Sapna's key area of focus is international arbitration and she works in various sectors, including shipbuilding, hospitality, and international trade. She has managed arbitrations spanning a wide range of industries, and governed by all the main institutional rules, including the SIAC, ICC, HKIAC, SCMA, LCIA, UNCITRAL and DIAC. She has substantial advocacy experience and has represented clients in trials and applications before arbitral tribunals, the UK Civil Courts (including the Supreme Court), and the Courts of the DIFC. In addition, Sapna has several appointments as an arbitrator. She practised in London, New York and Dubai, before relocating to Singapore in 2011.

Sapna was called to the Bar of England & Wales in 1999 and admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor in Singapore in 2019.
