Leading law firms Clyde & Co and Al Tamimi & Company (Al Tamimi) announce the launch of an Arabic translation of the DIFC-LCIA Arbitration and Mediation Rules to support the local arbitration community and help users and practitioners better understand the rules of one of the leading arbitration centres in the Middle East.

As enthusiasm grows for the United Arab Emirates as an international business hub for investment into the Arab world and beyond, arbitration and mediation have gained momentum as leading forms of dispute resolution in the Middle East region.

Nassif BouMalhab, Lead Partner for Clyde & Co's Middle East Arbitration Group, comments: "Against that background, we thought the publication and distribution of the DIFC-LCIA Rules in Arabic would attract a broader diversity of users, particularly amongst the Arabic-speaking business community. This project is another major step towards sharing knowledge, lifting communication barriers and supporting Arabic-speaking practitioners in the region."

Essam Al Tamimi, Senior Partner and Founder at Al Tamimi, comments: "Having the DIFC-LCIA Arbitration and Mediation Rules translated into Arabic will serve both the Arabic and international community. It will attract more users in the region as they will now have the choice to conduct arbitrations in the language that they want. This translation will certainly benefit Dubai and further position it as the arbitration hub in the Middle East. "

Robert Stephen, Registrar of the DIFC-LCIA Arbitration Centre, says: "We are very grateful to our friends at Clyde & Co and Al Tamimi for taking the initiative to prepare an Arabic translation of the DIFC-LCIA Arbitration and Mediation Rules. The project is about contributing to the growth and development of the practice of commercial arbitration in the region and improving access to dispute resolution services and diversity, all of which is very important to the DIFC-LCIA."

The translation of the DIFC-LCIA Arbitration and Mediation Rules are available on Clyde & Co and Al Tamimi's respective websites.

Clyde & Co's arbitration practice is one of the largest in the Middle East and boasts over 100 current arbitration cases, 13 arbitration partners, and over 35 arbitration practitioners in the region. Its arbitration practice cuts across several sectors including corporate and commercial, investment treaty, construction, real estate & hospitality, marine, insurance, and oil & gas.

Al Tamimi & Company is widely recognised as the pre-eminent law firm in the Middle East. In addition to its accomplished first-class Litigation department, the firm also has a specialist Arbitration team, consisting of international lawyers with considerable experience of arbitrating public and private law disputes in a variety of regions and industries, both as counsel and as arbitrators.
