Partner Edo Banach co-authored an article titled "Insurance Type and Quality of End-of-Life Care in Adults <65 Years With Hematologic Malignancies" in the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management. The article, a collaboration with researchers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Merative, analyzed 2,669 adults ages 18 to 64 with blood cancers who died between 2016 and 2021. The authors found that Medicaid beneficiaries were less likely to experience high-intensity healthcare utilization at the end of life, less likely to die in the hospital, and more likely to enroll in hospice and receive palliative care than those with commercial insurance. The findings point to the need for insurance-focused policy solutions to improve end-of-life care for this patient population.
