Congratulations to John Laratta, FCPA, FCA

The Fellow of Chartered Professional Accountants Award is granted to those members who have rendered exceptional service to the profession or whose achievements in their careers, the community, or in the profession have earned them distinction and brought honour to the profession. There is no one more deserving than John Laratta, and we, his colleagues were honoured to nominate, and see him receive this award. John has had many successes professionally, personally and through his many volunteer positions, and is undoubtedly deserving of the honour on numerous accounts.

What is truly remarkable and outstanding however is his passion and dedication to developing Chartered Accountants in the North. John played a vital role in developing a program to help students succeed, this has always been a priority for John.  This extended not only to our local office, but he was instrumental in encouraging the entire firm to dedicate additional resources to ensure Crowe Mackay develops the best and brightest future leaders.  Under his leadership, dozens of students in the Yellowknife office have successfully worked through the CASB program, and now the WSCPA, and passed the requisite exams.  The first successful CFE writer in the North is also a student from the Yellowknife office of Crowe Mackay.  In the past 10 years, the local office has trained 2 national honour roll writers, which is an incredible accomplishment not only on the part of the students, but also speaks to the support and development of the students, in which John plays a lead role.

John's passion for fostering professional development is evident to many.  Last year John celebrated his 20 year anniversary at Crowe MacKay LLP, and when asked to say a few words about his experience over that time, his fondest memories are of the successes of students over the years.  Although he downplays his involvement and support, those of us who have had the privilege of working with him over the years certainly recognize his contribution to accountancy in the North.  As a recognized leader for his technical competency, he inspires others to advance their professional competencies. Please join us in congratulating John!

Firm chairman, Don Turri had this to say, "John has been our leader in Yellowknife for many years. He is known throughout the Northwest Territories and his contributions to his community, his profession and to our firm are substantial. We are delighted to see John recognized with his FCA by his peers."
