RelyOn Acquires Two Strategic Companies In The Dutch Maritime Training Sector

We acted as legal counsel to RelyOn in connection with two strategic acquisitions that significantly expand its training capabilities and presence in the Netherlands.
Netherlands

On 20 October 2025, RelyOn entered into an agreement to acquire Simwave, a globally recognised Maritime Center of Excellence and leading provider of simulation-based training and digital learning solutions for the maritime industry. The acquisition supports RelyOn’s digital strategy and accelerates the development of AI-enhanced, adaptive maritime courses and competence software. Simwave will continue to operate as a center of excellence and serve as the foundation of RelyOn’s newly established Maritime Academy.

Shortly thereafter, on 22 October 2025, RelyOn confirmed the proposed acquisition of the STC Next training center in Heijplaat, Rotterdam, formerly known as STC-KNRM. This facility delivers safety, maritime, and technical training to a wide range of clients, including shipping companies, marine contractors, the Ministry of Defense and businesses operating in the Port of Rotterdam. The acquisition enables RelyOn to consolidate select activities in the Netherlands, improving operational efficiency and enhancing its integrated service offering.

Our multidisciplinary team includes experts in Corporate / M&A, Employment & Benefits, Tax and Civil Law Notaries. Together they provided comprehensive advice on all Dutch legal and tax aspects of the transactions.

We are proud to have supported RelyOn and to have contributed to their continued growth in the maritime training sector.
