The CBC has referenced Torys’ Quarterly in an article discussing the federal government’s goal to expedite “projects of national significance” as part of its recently passed Bill C-5.
The Torys piece, written by partner Michael Fortier and titled “Three ways to make Canada’s project approval process great—on Day One”, notes that the federal government has an opportunity to improve the projects approval process and advance national interests; however, no projects have yet been approved through the federal Impact Assessment Act (IAA) process, other than the Cedar LNG project in British Columbia, which was largely shepherded through the provincial assessment process.
“Some projects have been subject to the IAA pipeline for four or more years and are still years from any decision,” Michael explains.
He goes on to outline three transformative, straightforward actions that could be taken on by the next federal government, without amending or replacing the IAA. You can read the full Torys Quarterly piece here.
