The Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) has announced upcoming revisions to its official fee schedule. Notably, the changes affect the threshold, calculation, and timing of excess claim fees for patent applications.
When filing a request for Search and Examination or Examination
Currently, an excess claim fee of SGD 40 (approx. USD 31) is incurred per claim in excess of 20 claims.
Effective from 1 September 2025, an excess claim fee of SGD 80 (approx. USD 62) will be incurred per claim in excess of 15 claims.
When filing claims in response to a Written Opinion or an Invitation to Amend
Currently, no excess claim fees are incurred when filing claims in response to a Written Opinion or an Invitation to Amend, as excess claim fees are only incurred during payment of the grant fee. Effective from 1 April 2026, excess claim fees will be incurred when filing claims in response to a Written Opinion or an Invitation to Amend at SGD 80 (approx. USD 62) per claim in excess of 15 claims provided excess claim fees have not already been paid for claims in excess of 15 at the time of requesting examination. No excess claim fees will be incurred during payment of the grant fee.
Please note that the revised fee schedule will apply only to applications where the request for Search and Examination or Examination is filed on or after 1 September 2025. Applications with requests filed before this date will continue to be subject to the existing fee schedule.
In addition, the renewal fees and official fees for requesting examination have also been increased.
