We are thrilled to announce that McMillan was a winner of the 2025 Global Competition Review’s award for “Merger Control Matter of the Year – Americas” for our work on the Bunge/Viterra merger. The US$34 billion deal was completed on July 2nd and represents a significant milestone for our client Bunge, a premier global agribusiness solutions company, positioning it to meet the demands of increasingly complex markets and better serve farmers and end-customers.

The Bunge/Viterra merger required regulatory approvals across the globe. Canada’s regulatory process was complex, with the Minister of Transport announcing that this deal would be the first non-airline merger reviewed under the Canada Transportation Act, resulting in a parallel review with the Competition Bureau.

The annual GCR Awards honour the world’s leading antitrust lawyers, economists and enforcers as well as the biggest cases from 2024. Together with Bunge’s and Viterra’s worldwide counsel and economists, including Bunge’s lead counsel, Latham & Watkins, McMillan’s Competition team was recognized for their exemplary work on this complicated transaction.

McMillan’s stellar regulatory team, led by Neil Campbell and Joshua Chad, Partners, Competition, Antitrust and Foreign Investment, with invaluable support from Bill Wu, Hannah Johnson, Phil Kariam, Conner Wylie, and Mishail Adeel, were instrumental in obtaining Canadian regulatory approval. Supported by a team of more than 40 professionals from across our offices, coordinated by Brett Stewart, Partner, Mergers & Acquisitions, the outcome was a testament to McMillan’s exemplary regulatory expertise and One Office approach.
