RPJ is proud to congratulate the Estate of longtime client Albert Bialek on the successful sale of the historic Metro Theater on Manhattan's Upper West Side to the Upper West Side Cinema Center, a nonprofit group dedicated to revitalizing the space as a working theater.

For many years, RPJ had the privilege of representing Mr. Bialek in his efforts to revitalize this landmark property, which had long been a cherished cultural institution in the neighborhood. Through his vision and unwavering commitment, Mr. Bialek sought to ensure that the Metro Theater would remain a vibrant part of the community. We are proud to see that this dream is now being realized, as the nonprofit plans to transform the theater into a dynamic five-screen venue, complete with a lobby lounge and public café.

The beloved Art Deco landmark had stood vacant for nearly two decades after closing in 2005 as Mr. Bialek, who passed away in 2023, remained steadfast in his desire to see the property revived in the right hands. Despite its numerous challenges in finding a viable redevelopment plan, the theater's new chapter is set to begin, thanks to the $3.5 million in discretionary grants from New York Governor Kathy Hochul and additional funding from the State Senate.

RPJ wishes the Upper West Side Cinema Center every success as it embarks on the journey of bringing the Metro Theater back to life and reaffirming its place as a cultural beacon for generations to come.
