ENS was the legal advisor to three deals that won Deal of the Year recognitions at the Global Banking and Markets Africa Awards 2025.

The Awards have an exhaustive selection process that involves close examination of deal size, tenor, structure, and distribution; analysis and background of the borrower and their accessibility to financing; with extra credit for those deals demonstrating high-quality execution, accessing new pools of liquidity, innovative structuring, and opening-up new markets.

The winning deals in which we advised are:

Corporate Bond Deal of the Year

For our role in advising Sibanye-Stillwater on its USD500-million unsecured convertible bond.

Team: Clinton van Loggerenberg, Shafeeka Hartley, Estelle Hislop, John van Niekerk, Jordan Maze and Thameena Ganey

ECA, DFI, IFI Deal of the Year

For our role in advising International Finance Corporation on its USD20-million loan to Afropa.

Team: Craig Saven

East Africa Deal of the Year

For our role in advising Standard Bank of South Africa Limited and Citigroup Global Markets Limited in the issuance of the USD1.5-billion bond due 2031 by the Republic by Kenya.

Team: Binti Shah, George Muthee, Victor Maobe, Minna Mumma and Vione Nyachieo

Craig Saven, Head of ENS’ banking and finance practice, said, “These award-winning transactions are a powerful signal of the dynamic growth we're witnessing across African markets. They demonstrate the increasing sophistication and ambition of African companies, and we're incredibly pleased to have played a key role in structuring and executing deals that are truly reshaping the continent's financial landscape."

ENS Executive in Kenya, Binti Shah, added, “We extend our heartfelt congratulations to our clients, whose pioneering financing strategies are charting a new course for Africa's economic future. Their vision and determination are truly inspiring.”

Thank you to our clients for their continued partnership. We're honoured to have played a part in your journey.
