For the 3rd consecutive year, KPMG was present at the University of Malta for Freshers' Week to usher in the new academic year and welcome freshers during this exciting time in their life. KPMG's stand served a dual purpose: to showcase KPMG's service offering and complimentary job opportunities to potential candidates and to promote a healthy lifestyle through regular exercise. Students who visited the stand cycled, on a purposely set-up gym bicycle, in aid of Puttinu Cares Foundation. KPMG pledged to donate €1 for every kilometer cycled by freshers.

Titled 'Rise to the Challenge', KPMG's Freshers' Week tagline aimed to encourage, or more aptly, dare freshers visiting the stand to accept the challenge and test their physical endurance by cycling a minimum of 1km to raise funds for a just cause. Successful cyclists proudly proceeded to willingly donate monies, thus adding on to KPMG's pledge.

As they embark on a learning journey set to pave the way for their personal development and enticing career prospects, a significant number of freshers rose to the challenge and with a true sense of altruism and a hint of bravery proceeded to set foot on the paddles and cycle away.

Elizabeth Saladino, KPMG HR Manager, presented Puttinu Cares Foundation Chairman Dr Victor Calvagna, a cheque of €750.

Ms Saladino expressed her gratitude to the freshers who rose to the challenge and helped KPMG raise funds to provide holistic care to families of children suffering from a difficult disease. 'On behalf of KPMG in Malta, I want to thank all the freshers who rose to the challenge and supported our initiative to raise funds for all those families in Malta who are going through a very difficult time. As part of our corporate responsibility, we feel duty-bound to come up with such initiatives to help support charities which offer services to those in need.'

On his part, Dr Calvagna expressed his appreciation to KPMG and all the fresher's who selflessly accepted KPMG's challenge to cycle in aid of Puttinu Cares Foundation. He commented, 'The money collected by this event will go towards Puttinu's efforts to provide free accommodation for patients needing specialised treatment abroad.'
