Evolving Australian cyber policy and initiatives

The Australian Government is taking clear steps to drastically improve cyber security and cyber resilience.

The Minister for Home Affairs and Cyber Security, the Hon. Clare O'Neil MP, assembled an expert advisory board in late 2022 to develop the new 2023-2030 Australian Cyber Security Strategy. A discussion paper was released, with feedback sought across all levels of government, industry and community.

As technology continues to evolve, there are clear benefits from the digitisation of daily activities. However, several major, high-profile cyber breaches in recent years have highlighted the risks to privacy, business continuity and trust in the organisations we interact with. Security and risk management across this digital landscape is critical.

The Federal Government's consultation intends to develop a long-term strategy to make Australia one the world's most cyber secure nations by 2030.

Calling on the extensive and wide-ranging experience of our certified cybersecurity, technology, risk management and privacy specialists, KordaMentha made its submission to the Government's call for consultation. The response highlights key recommendations to incorporate a shared national ambition regarding cyber security, initiatives related to enhancing privacy and corporate governance legislation, the security of critical infrastructure and professionalisation of the Australian cyber security workforce. The focus is to develop a robust and effective national cyber security strategy, capable of ensuring a safer, more secure and more cyber resilient Australia.
