With the introduction of the GDPR only days away, the Oireachtas has passed the Data Protection Bill which will now go to the President for consideration and to be signed into law. The Data Protection Bill, which was initiated in the Seanad and amended by the Dáil, will give further effect to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that come into force on Friday, 25 May. This Bill will have the effect of modernising Ireland’s data protection laws and will ensure that Ireland is meeting its obligations to help create a consistent data protection regime across the European Union.
