Changes to the monetary jurisdiction of the Civil Courts have taken place (since 3rd February 2014). Part 3 of the Courts and Civil Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2013 enabled the changes and then the changes were commenced by statutory instrument S.I. 566 of 2013 Courts and Civil Law (Miscellaneous) Act 2013 (Jurisdiction of District and Circuit Court) (Commencement) Order 2013.
The new limits are as follows:
- District Court - €15,000.00 (up from €6,384.00)
- Circuit Court (other than personal injury actions) - €75,000.00 (up from €38,092.00).
- Circuit Court for personal injury actions - €60,000.00 (up from €38,092.00).
New court rules and costs scales have been introduced.
