The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) announced yesterday a revamped hotline for reporting fraud, waste, abuse and mismanagement involving DHHS programs. Complaints investigated by the OIG include, among other things, false or fraudulent claims submitted to Medicare or Medicaid; kickbacks or inducements for referrals by Medicare or Medicaid providers; medical identity theft involving Medicare and/or Medicaid beneficiaries; and abuse or neglect in nursing homes and other long-term-care facilities. According to a video posted by the OIG, improvements include making the website mobile compatible and providing additional information regarding the complaint process.
