The news that Jersey has decided to set up its own Financial Services Commission has been welcomed by the Guernsey FSC. First of the Islands to entrust supervision to a semi-autonomous body of this kind was the Isle of Man in 1983, followed by Guernsey in 1988.

'Experience has shown that this is the best way to structure supervision, making it easier to provide the resources needed and to inject the appropriate degree of self-regulation.' comments John Roper, Director General of the Guernsey FSC.
