The Board of Governors has appointed Mr Aldo Giordano as Director of the Resolution Unit. The appointment comes into effect on 1st January 2016.
Mr Giordano joined the Central Bank of Malta in 1979. He worked within various departments in the Bank, including Research and Statistics Office, Correspondent Banking and Banking Supervision. Mr Giordano spent 14 years in the latter department gaining experience in on-site and off-site monitoring of banks as well as in the compliance and licensing of such institutions. On moving to the MFSA in 2002, Mr Giordano continued to specialise in Regulation and Compliance as Deputy Director within the Banking Supervision Unit which encompassed both licensing and policy areas. He represented the MFSA in a number of local and foreign working groups.
During the past five years he was involved in the discussions at European level on Bank Recovery and Resolution Directive (BRRD), the Single Resolution Mechanism Regulation (SRMR) and the Intergovernmental Agreement on the Single Resolution Fund. Mr Giordano was also instrumental in the transposition of the BRRD into Maltese Law as well as to the amendments in the MFSA Act establishing the Resolution Authority. He is representing the MFSA as a voting member, in the Single Resolution Board and the Resolution Committee of the European Banking Authority.
