Malta has the best transposition record of European Legislation according to the latest scoreboard published in October by the European Commission showing figures from May 2015. The scoreboard benchmarks the efforts of member states of implementing the Internal Market Law.
Malta's transposition deficit in May 2015 was 0.4%, which is lower than the EU average of 0.7%, despite Malta having four more overdue directives when compared to the previous scoreboard. Malta was also the only state with no compliance deficit, meaning that no directives were incorrectly transposed.
Directives concerning financial services which resulted in the increase in pending directives were due to the long and complex transposition process. Deputy prime minister and minister for European Affairs Louis Grech welcomed this good result as a demonstration that the government is committed to maintain Malta's place as a top performer within the EU.
