Kesko Oy, Finland's largest perishables firm, acquired Kaukomarkkinat Oy, a commercial trading house from Sponsor Oy. The acquisition is an attempt to increase Kesko's import and export business, which especially in Russia and in the Baltic countries has failed to be profitable. Accordingly Kesko through Kaukomarkkinat is interested in obtaining a channel for exporting perishable goods to Russia.

Kaukomarkkinat's last year turnover was around 640 million U.S. dollars, and the acquisition price 105 million U.S. dollars.
