On March 27, the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) announced a further extension and now all deadlines falling between March 16 and April 30 have been automatically extended until May 1, 2020.

On March 17 , we reported on some of the precautionary measures being taken by CIPO. At the time, the main announcement was that all deadlines falling between March 16 and March 31 would be automatically extended to April 1, 2020. It was also announced that further extensions were possible and CIPO has now officially extended all deadlines falling between March 16 and April 30, 2020 to May 1, 2020.

CIPO does, however, remain open for business. As we noted in our report of March 24 , it is as important as ever to have new trademark applications filed expeditiously, especially when filing via Madrid.

CIPO has also indicated that it may announce further extensions of time beyond May 1, 2020.
