The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) establishes the strictest privacy law in the country and a model that may be followed by other states. Beginning on January 1, 2020, California consumers will have significant control over their personal information, including the right to know what data businesses collect and what they do with it. In some circumstances, consumers may demand the deletion of their personal information. Consumers will also have a statutory private right of action, with significant statutory damages, when their personal information is breached.
This webinar goes beyond the basics of the CCPA, providing practical advice on how to prepare. After providing an overview of the CCPA's key provisions and draft regulations, the presenters will discuss various ways to mitigate compliance risk (including a review of available technologies), present a high-level compliance checklist, and discuss possible defenses to litigation before the lawsuits begin.
