We invite you to join us for the third instalment of the 'Tech Transfer and Innovation in the GCC' webinar. Through this webinar series, we seek to demystify what Technology Transfer is and its role in creating an innovation ecosystem in the GCC. The topic of discussion for this webinar session is 'IP management strategies for universities and R&D organisations'.

For an invention fresh out of the research lab, the technology transfer office (TTO) is the gatekeeper to the market. The functions of the TTO are crucial to a technology's chance of successfully reaching the market and generating a benefit for the organisation, the community and the general public. Despite having such an integral role, many TTOs struggle to show the value of their function and why solid IP management is important for their organisation.

In this webinar, we bring together experts from Canada, Singapore and the UAE to share their experiences and perspectives on strategies that can help you manage your portfolios strategically, reduce your patent expenses and show the value of your IP function.

Our panellists include:

  • Trevor Newton, Partner and Patent Agent, Gowling WLG, Canada
  • Dr Vivien Wei Cheng, Patent Attorney, JurisAsia LLC, Singapore
  • Winsome Dunn, IP Agreements Manager, Khalifa University, UAE

We'll discuss:

  • Where to start on IP management practices for universities and R&D organisations
  • How to go about evaluating your invention disclosures
  • IP protection strategies for bio/medical, chemical/pharmaceutical, and emerging tech (e.g. AI)
  • Patent filing and prosecution strategies, looking at new developments in each region and ways to delay or speed up patenting decisions
  • Things to consider when managing IP in agreements
  • Using KPIs to measure and show the impact of IP management and tech transfer

We hope you will join us for the discussion on 17 November from 17:00 - 18:00 (GST).
