MARKETABLE SECURITIES TAX (MST)

A marketable securities tax of 0,5% is payable in respect of every purchase of marketable securities through the agency of or from a member of the JSE. The tax is not payable by a person who is not ordinarily resident in South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho or Swaziland, but if registration of transfer is sought stamp duty would become payable unless a specific exemption applies.

VALUE ADDED TAX (VAT)

VAT is payable on brokerage charged in agency transactions.
