HOUSTON, September 28, 2022 – The Hispanic Bar Association of Houston (HisBA), whose President is Baker Botts partner Natalie Alfaro Gonzales, received the prestigious Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA)/VIA National Affiliate Organization of the Year Award.

HisBA is committed to empowering the Hispanic community through public forums, mentorship programs and scholarships, and providing Hispanic attorneys, judiciary and students opportunities for professional growth.

With its ever-increasing focus on mentorship and community, HisBA continued its one-of-a-kind mentorship program in 2021-2022, pairing law students with lawyers and judges and hosting numerous events geared toward developing our next generation of lawyers.

Through its record-breaking fundraising in 2022, HisBA awarded over $40,000 in scholarships to a record 22 Hispanic students.

HisBA had a robust CLE and public forums program over the last two years, covering Texas Voting Access, Law Enforcement, and the Hispanic Community, mentorship, implicit bias, clerkships, judicial appointments and more.

Finally, HisBA continued to be active in the community, staffing phone lines monthly for a legal advice service called Consejos Legales and hosting service events at Wesley Community Center.

The award was presented during the National Awards Reception at the 2022 HNBA Annual Convention earlier this month, and Natalie accepted the award on behalf of HisBA. Baker Botts was a proud sponsor of the HNBA Annual Convention.
