Robert P. Vacchiano, Riker Danzig partner in the Firm’s Insurance & Reinsurance Group and Cybersecurity & Data Privacy Group, was appointed to the New Jersey State Bar Association's (NJSBA) Artificial Intelligence Special Committee.
The Committee examines the legal issues arising from the use of AI in legal practice and works to establish policies for AI use consistent with professional and ethical standards. It reviews legislation and makes recommendations to the NJSBA Board of Trustees, develops AI resources for the legal community, and pursues policies to help the justice system provide equal access, with an eye toward social justice, diversity, and equality.
Rob serves as Riker Danzig's AI governance lead, working with the Firm's managing partner, Michael P. O'Mullan, to develop and implement its AI policies and training and to guide the Firm's adoption of AI systems across its practices. He holds the Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP) designation from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), reflecting knowledge of generative AI technology, its risks, and the frameworks used to govern AI systems, as well as the IAPP's CIPP/US certification in U.S. privacy law and data protection, a field that increasingly intersects with AI governance and deployment.
He has written on cybersecurity and technology issues since 2018, including for the New Jersey Law Journal, and has presented on AI and technology at continuing legal education programs, including for the Essex County Bar Association.
On the Committee, Rob intends to contribute to the NJSBA's work on AI-related legislation and practical guidance for the Bar, to strengthen communication between the Bench and Bar on the use of generative AI, and to help address emerging issues including deepfake evidence, AI in discovery, AI as a substantive practice area, and the broader impact of AI on the business of law.
