Kathryn Walker joined the Firm on July 7 as a Partner in the Corporate Tax group in Toronto. She brings extensive experience in domestic and cross-border income tax matters, with a focus on strategic tax planning for corporations and financial institutions. With a background in law and economics, she has advised on complex transactions involving debt restructuring and cryptocurrency taxation. She is also a regular contributor to publications on tax law developments and is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, the Canadian Tax Foundation, the Ontario Bar Association, the Canadian Bar Association, and the International Fiscal Association.
Peter Wong joined the Firm on July 21 as Counsel in the Private Client Services group in Vancouver. He brings significant experience in Canadian income tax matters, with a focus on estate planning, wealth management, corporate reorganizations, and cross-border investment. Fluent in Cantonese and English, he regularly advises high-net-worth individuals and families, including clients from Hong Kong and parts of China, on tax-efficient strategies to preserve and repatriate wealth. His work includes advising on non-resident trust structures, voluntary disclosures, and resolving disputes with the Canada Revenue Agency.
Amit Ummat joins today as a Partner in the Tax Disputes Resolution & Commodity Taxes group in Toronto. He focuses on income tax and GST/HST litigation across a wide range of industries and represents clients at all levels of court in Canada. Amit advises on audits, negotiations with tax authorities, and dispute resolution strategies, with a track record of securing favourable outcomes. His practice also includes international tax controversy, and his writing on complex tax matters has been recognized in both Canadian and international publications.
