Ward and Smith attorney Genesis Torres has joined the Board of Directors for Urban Ministries of Wake County, bringing her labor and employment law background to an organization focused on serving the most vulnerable members of the community.
She'll serve a three-year term.
Urban Ministries provides critical services—including food, shelter, and healthcare—to thousands of individuals and families in need throughout Wake County. Its board comprises leaders from various professional backgrounds who help guide the organization's strategy and support its long-term mission. Genesis is excited to contribute her legal perspective to that work.
"Urban Ministries meets people where they are and gives them a path forward," Genesis said. "Being part of that mission in a more hands-on way feels like a natural extension of the work I care about."
As an attorney, Genesis represents employers in a wide range of workplace matters, from compliance and training to dispute resolution and litigation. She's also deeply familiar with the legal and practical barriers people can face in the workplace—insight she hopes will help inform the board's decision-making and advocacy efforts.
