As of October 1, 2020, Manitoba's minimum wage will increase 25 cents - from $11.65 per hour to $11.90 per hour.

The increase is based on the province's 2.2 per cent inflation rate in 2019. A similar increase came into effect last October 1, 2019, raising the minimum wage from $11.35 to $11.65.

The Manitoba government noted in a news release that the reduction of the provincial sales tax rate from eight to seven per cent has benefited Manitoba families and businesses, saving them an estimated $325 million in the past year. Additionally, the province eliminated the sales tax on property insurance premiums on July 1, 2020, saving Manitobans an additional $75 million.

All provincially-regulated employers with employees who are paid the minimum wage must make the mandatory adjustments by October 1, 2020. For more information, please contact one of our Manitoba labour and employment lawyers.
