Toronto (August 3, 2016)The federal government announced today that Qajaq Robinson, a lawyer in the Ottawa office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG), has been appointed to the commission of the upcoming national inquiry into Canada's missing and murdered indigenous women. In her role as a commissioner of the inquiry, Ms. Robinson will examine the systemic causes of violence against indigenous women and girls in Canada, and produce interim and final reports on the commission's findings.

Ms. Robinson is an associate in BLG's Commercial Litigation Group and a member of the firm's Team North. She practices general civil litigation with particular emphasis on Aboriginal law, contract law, tort law, public law and administrative law. Prior to joining BLG, she spent five years as a prosecutor with the Public Prosecution Services of Canada in Iqaluit. She also has experience working with Inuit organizations as the Senior Policy Advisor for the Qikiqtani Inuit Association, where she gained deep familiarity with the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement and the law and government policies relating to the rights of Canada's Indigenous Peoples. Ms. Robinson was raised in Nunavut and is a fluent speaker of Inuktitut.
