Shipman & Goodwin is pleased to announce that James C. Schulwolf, a partner in the firm's Business and Finance Practice Groups, assumed the role of Chair of the American Bar Association's (ABA) Business Law Section during its annual meeting in Washington D.C., September 15-18. As Chair, Jim will lead the Section for the next year in providing cutting-edge content for its members, helping shape developments in business law, and being a voice for business lawyers.

Jim has served the Business Law Section in numerous leadership roles, including Vice Chair and as Editor-in-Chief of The Business Lawyer. He also chaired the Business Law Section Leadership Development Committee and Commercial Finance Committee, and was the original organizer and producer of its highly successful monthly CLE webinar series Business Law Basics.

As a Partner in Shipman's Business and Corporate Practice Group, Jim focuses his practice on advising clients in financing, investment, acquisition, and restructuring transactions. His clients know Jim as a trusted advisor who provides practical and creative advice and cost-effective solutions in the transactions in which he is involved. Jim regularly represents banks, mezzanine funds, and other institutional investors in structuring, documenting, and closing complex senior and mezzanine financings, including mezzanine financings with equity co-investments. He represents institutional limited partners in their investments in private equity funds, hedge funds, venture capital funds, and portfolio companies, and also represents buyers and sellers of businesses in merger and acquisition transactions. He received his J.D. from New York University School of Law and graduated cum laude from Amherst College.

The ABA Business Law Section is the largest in the ABA with more than 32,000 members both in the USA and around the world. The Section, through its more than 40 substantive Committees, offers its members the highest level of content, providing cutting-edge knowledge about all aspects of business law, from wide-ranging areas like securities law, sports law, and secured transactions to highly specialized areas like captive insurance, gaming, and credit unions. The Section also plays an important role in the development of corporate and commercial laws, and members are regularly involved in the transactions and cases that shape modern business law.
