Walkers has promoted three lawyers to the partnership of its market-leading London based Bermuda, BVI and Cayman law team in the firm's annual promotions round which saw a record 26 new partners internationally.

Andrew Chissick (Insolvency & Dispute Resolution), Catherine Overton (Corporate & Finance) and Ian Williams (Investment Funds) have all joined the Walkers partnership in London, now at 14 partners strong (across Bermuda, BVI and Cayman law) after sustained strategic growth over the past three years.

In addition, Tom Esler (Corporate & Finance) has been promoted to senior associate.

Walkers' London (in addition to having the largest London based offshore capability) is the pre-eminent offshore legal team in the City, and the only firm ranked in the top tier by Legal 500 and by Chambers & Partners for both BVI and Cayman law advice.

The team provides support for clients in the EMEA time zone on Bermuda, BVI and Cayman law matters.

The newest partners in the team are:

  • Andrew Chissick, a partner in the Insolvency & Dispute Resolution Group, who advises on BVI, Bermuda and Cayman law, and who has worked offshore since 2015, focusing on complex and high-value multi-jurisdictional disputes.
  • Catherine Overton, a partner in the Banking & Finance Group, joined Walkers in 2016 having trained with a Magic Circle firm, and advises on a broad range of corporate and finance matters under BVI and Cayman law.
  • Ian Williams, a partner in the Investment Funds Group, has practised at Walkers since 2015 after training with Herbert Smith Freehills – he is part of the firm's Cayman investment funds practice.

The team – which over the last 12 months has introduced a new Bermuda law offering, to add to its BVI and Cayman law offering in the City – now has 14 partners in London.

Jack Boldarin, the managing partner of Walkers' London office, said: "On behalf of everyone in the Walkers partnership in London and the entire office, I am delighted to congratulate Andrew, Catherine and Ian on being made up to partner.

"Our sustained success as the only firm to be ranked in the top tier in London for Cayman and BVI work by both Chambers & Partner and Legal 500 is down to an enormous amount of hard work by some very talented people, and I am very pleased to see Andrew, Catherine and Ian recognised for their significant contribution over the last few years."

Walkers' London office does not advise on English law matters, but works alongside leading English law advisers to provide integrated onshore and offshore support.

The 26 new partners across Walkers' global offices marks the firm's largest ever round of additions to the partnership.

Walkers is a leading international law firm practising Cayman, BVI, Bermuda, Jersey, Guernsey and Irish law across a global network of ten offices that includes London, Dubai, Hong Kong and Singapore.
