Shipman & Goodwin LLP is pleased to announce that Latonia Williams has been named to the Hartford Business Journal's 2022 40 Under Forty list. Williams was recognized as an outstanding young professional in the greater Hartford area for her work on bankruptcy and creditors' rights matters, as well as her leadership in diversity, equity, and inclusion. Her clients include secured and unsecured lenders, insurance companies, equipment lessors, healthcare businesses, and franchisors.

"We congratulate Latonia on this well-deserved honor," said Managing Partner Leander Dolphin. "She is a tireless advocate for our clients, utilizing her keen legal insight to quickly analyze the complex issues of bankruptcy law and achieve the best possible results. She also serves as an inspiring leader in our diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, providing invaluable guidance and mentorship to others. We are happy to see her recognized for all her contributions to our community."

Williams joined Shipman as an associate in 2009 and immediately distinguished herself as a skilled advocate for companies experiencing financial distress. She has diffused disputes through negotiation, and she has protected the financial interests of clients through litigation. Williams has a detailed understanding of the various intricacies in the Bankruptcy Code, and diligently represents creditors in all aspects of bankruptcy throughout the United States, including defending against avoidance actions brought by debtors and trustees.

"I am honored to be included alongside other Hartford community leaders in the 40 Under Forty list," said Williams. "I am passionate about providing clients with the benefit of the expertise and skill I have developed over the course of my career as a commercial litigator. I am also firmly committed to providing opportunities for law students from historically underrepresented groups to develop their skills and grow as legal professionals. I am grateful to be recognized by the Hartford Business Journal for this meaningful work."

Williams currently serves as Chair of Shipman's Hiring Committee, focusing on more than just educational performance when interviewing and ensuring that all candidates with impressive legal potential receive serious consideration. She has also served on the firm's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee since 2010. Williams is a past Vice President of the George W. Crawford Black Bar Association and a current board member of Statewide Legal Services of Connecticut – a legal aid organization providing access to justice in low-income Connecticut residents.
