Australia's leading independent law firm, Corrs Chambers Westgarth, has advised TPG Telecom (TPG) on its ten-year network sharing agreement with Telstra.

Under the deal, both TPG and Telstra will benefit from improved network capability, particularly across rural and urban fringe areas. TPG will gain access to around 3,700 of Telstra's cellular towers, and Telstra will gain access to TPG's 4G and 5G spectrum and around 169 extra mobile sites.

The deal will boost TPG's 4G coverage to 98.8% of the population, up from 96%.

Corrs advised TPG on all aspects of the agreement, leveraging the combined expertise of the Corrs' Technology, Media and Telecommunications, and Competition teams. The deal was led by Corrs' Head of Technology, Media and Telecommunications James North, supported by Competition partner Jodi Gray.

Commenting on the deal, James North said: "This is a significant agreement for TPG, Telstra and consumers across Australia who are set to benefit from an expanded mobile network.

"This deal builds on our track record of advising TPG, and the sector more broadly, on the most strategically important transactions in the telecommunications industry."

The deal is subject to approval from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.
