MoFo is advising Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) in its US$550 million asset acquisition of the Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ) program from Bombardier Inc., a global leader in the transportation industry. The deal was announced on June 25, 2019, and is expected to close by the second quarter of 2020.

Under the agreement, MHI, which is one of the world's leading industrial firms, will acquire the maintenance, support, refurbishment, marketing, and sales activities for the CRJ program, including the related services and support network in Canada and its service centers in the United States, as well as the aircraft type certificates. The transaction is a key step in MHI's strategy of expanding its aircraft business globally, with a mid-term focus on North America, and it positions MHI to transform and lead the underserved regional jet business.

The MoFo team advising MHI is led by Tokyo corporate partner Randy Laxer, and includes of counsels Sam Inohara and Seth Graham, and associates Adam Harris, Aya Eguchi, Yohei Nakagawa, and Susanne Petersen.
