Yonex, globally recognized for its premium badminton racquets and shuttlecocks, has entered into definitive agreements to acquire a significant stake in Sunrise Sports. The transaction is structured to position Yonex as a major shareholder while maintaining Sunrise Sports' established operations and distribution infrastructure in India.
Sunrise Sports has been a long-standing distribution partner for Yonex, playing a critical role in supporting the company's product distribution strategy and driving brand penetration and market expansion. By acquiring a significant stake, Yonex aims to further strengthen its partnership and advance strategic initiatives that integrate Yonex's global expertise with the unique dynamics of the Indian market. The transaction reflects Yonex's commitment to deepening its operational involvement with a trusted partner while leveraging Sunrise Sports' established local market capabilities.
LKS's engagement encompasses advising on transaction structure, managing cross-border regulatory considerations, negotiating all transaction documentation and providing assistance at the time of closing of the transaction. The transaction involved coordination across multiple counsel teams, with LKS working alongside DMD Advocates (tax advisor to the promoter of Sunrise Sports), Baker McKenzie (representing Yonex), Khaitan & Co. and KPMG to ensure alignment on all commercial, regulatory and tax aspects.
