BLG acted for the Province of Nova Scotia in connection with its QEII Halifax Infirmary Expansion Project. The transformative expansion project is being delivered using a progressive Design-Build-Finance-Maintain (DBFM) model.
The Province's agreement includes construction of the 14-floor tower expected to be fully complete and open to patients and providers in the fall of 2031 with its maintenance over the next 30 years. The project's total cost will be $7.4 billion.
When complete, the new tower will add 216 beds, 16 operating rooms, a 48-bed intensive care unit and a new emergency department that is nearly twice the size of the current one. It will also have state-of-the-art equipment, a satellite diagnostic imaging department in the emergency department, new and upgraded lab spaces and additional treatment spaces.
The expansion is one element of More, Faster: The Action for Health Build, the Province's comprehensive plan for improving healthcare services for Nova Scotians.
BLG has acted as transaction counsel to the Province since 2019 on all facets of the Project with a team involving Richard Shaban, Kasim Salim, Rachael Belanger, Christine Ferguson and Mira Azzi.
