Cayman Islands

On the 29th January 2016, the Crown discontinued a case of arson against Don Nixon represented by Samson & McGrath Attorney, Prathna Bodden.

The case was discontinued as the Crown advised that the charge of arson was of some age, and over the years there have been a number of mental health reports and further statements in the case and now, after careful review they had made the decision to discontinue the case against the defendant.  They asked the Court to place on the record invaluable support given to the case by Officer Curtis Ebanks of the RCIPS.

Following the hearing Quin J, who had dealt with the matter for many years commended Officer Ebanks for going beyond the call of duty to ensure that Mr. Nixon reached the hospital and other Court ordered locations, his involvement over the years was testimony to his professionalism and selfless dedication to the case.

Quin J also stated that Mrs. Bodden should be highly commended in relation to the case. He acknowledged that Mrs. Bodden had dedicated herself to a case that brought little monetary reward and defended her Client with intensity and diligence many would not have afforded such a Client.

The Court discharged the Defendant.
