Public Policy formulation is most effective when the private sector participates in its ideation, implementation and compliance process. Over the last few months, our Principal Partner, Mrs. Yetunde Olasope in her capacity as a consultant, and ably supported by the Lexworth team, carried out a policy mapping exercise on the regulatory framework applicable to the operations of Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSMEs) in Lagos State. In addition to taking a look at the enabling environment for businesses operating within Lagos generally, particular focus was placed on businesses within the plastic waste recycling value chain and women-owned businesses.

This project was commissioned by the Office of Sustainable Development Goals and Investment (OSDG&I), of the Lagos State Government with the support of the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). This aim of the project is to promote economic growth and bolster job creation within the MSME ecosystem.

A Validation Workshop was held on Wednesday 8th December 2021, during which representatives of relevant MDAs, Organized Private Sector, Federal Regulators, and business owners received the Consultant's Draft Report containing key findings and recommendations for improving the business enabling environment for MSMEs across sectors within the State. Additional comments and recommendations were received from participants of the Workshop, with the aim of validating and improving the Consultant's recommendations for effective implementation. The recommendations put forward by participants of the Validation Workshop will be harmonised with the prepared Report and presented to the Lagos State Government for implementation.
