Equity crowdfunding is generating buzz across Canada as recent regulatory changes to five provinces (Ontario, Manitoba, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia) now allow companies to raise capital from Canadian and foreign non-accredited investors.

Aird and Berlis LLP's Rebecca Kacaba and Graham Topa speak with Robert Gold as they kick-off the first episode of PROFIT's equity crowdfunding podcast series. In the podcast, Rebecca and Graham discuss various topics surrounding the new crowdfunding regime from selecting the right exemptions to restrictions on advertising, registration and offering expenses, as well as where to find investors.

This new avenue for issuers will push startups to be organized from the beginning. And, while upfront costs may initially seem like an expensive way to raise capital, it will become easier for startups to raise up to $1.5 million a year.

The podcast aired on February 4, 2016 and can be accessed here or downloaded from iTunes.
