On May 13, the Brazilian Federal Executive Branch introduced Bill of Law No. 5,276/2016 (source document in
Portuguese) to the Brazilian Congress. The proposed legislation
addresses consent for personal data management, international data
transfers, government collection of data for public policy, and
administrative penalties for violations. The bill also provides
that the National Data Protection Agency will be created to oversee
compliance with data privacy laws.
